Airway obstruction
Choking (whooping, coughing):
Encourage coughing
Watch for developments
Choking (choking, no coughing):
Lean the victim forward
5 strokes between the shoulder blades
5 epigastric compressions
Repeat until the foreign body is removed
Remember:
- If the Victim loses consciousness and is still not breathing, call an ambulance and start CPR!
- Do not perform epigastric compressions on pregnant women, obese people and infants. Replace them with compressions on the sternum.
- If the foreign body is removed from the airway during coughing or by blows between the shoulder blades, there is no need to perform epigastric compressions.
